Princess of Aztlan

Description

This work was inspired by a barbie that my twin sister bought for me as a Christmas present two years ago. Yes, darn it, I love to collect barbies, especially if it represents themes that I like. :) The barbie was done to look like an Aztec princess which is part of the princess of the world series. I was hoping to find or at least that they make the Inca and Maya princess versions but so far they hadn't made them or I haven't found them.

Anyway, there are many references used to make this pic. The first was the inspiration behind the Aztec princess' costume which was done by the company that makes the barbie dolls. I think it is Mattel.

Of course, I took great artistic liberties in drawing this costume because I packed my Aztec barbie in a box that contained my college things. And there were a lot of boxes. :jawdrop: Thus I had no luck in finding that darn barbie when coloring it. :stupidme:

Another thing, I must credit the stock artist who inspired me to draw the pic in the first place and that honor belongs to:

The link to the specific stock image I used is here:

The background was inspired from one of Ann Kullberg's portraits since I am dismally bad at creating backgrounds.

I drew this picture back in March and had been coloring it off and on for the past four months. It is finally finished. The pic is entirely done in Prismacolor pencils with too many layers to count. I think I am satisfied with what I have done with this pic despite some mistakes in coloring.
